Before
the free mass vaccination program started
in May this year there were 9 Irish adverse reactions reports (Irish
Medical Board figures) - even though the uptake from the public on the HPV
Vaccine had been reported as "
very
poor" (due to the high cost).
Note that in Ireland, the
public is not given access to the Anonymised raw reports, as possible in
the US with the VAERs system, (where you can download an excel spreadsheet with
all the raw data).
Instead the public may email the Pharmacovigilance
section,
Irish Medicines Board to request figures on
Irish Gardasil Adverse reactions reports. They still won't give a
breakdown that will acccount for every reported condition though (as
apparently the configuration of their current database doesn’t allow for
that), so they may not be revealing everything.
Latest (July 2010) Irish
adverse reactions reported (with Wikipedia translation) - "although a causal
relationship to vaccine exposure has not been established for these
reactions":
- Convulsion
- Erythema multiforme (pink-red skin
blotches)
- Alopecia (hair loss)
- hypersensitivity reaction (may cover
range of reactions from Allergic to Autoimmune disease)
- lymphadenopathy
(swollen/enlarged lymph nodes)
- syncope (fainting / loss of
consciousness)
- urticaria (hives /
rash with itchy red bumps)
In the context of the launch of
the HSE HPV schools vaccination programme, an increased reporting rate is
anticipated in the Autumn (according to the IMB).
